TPI engine harness and ECM - Since TPI uses 8 injectors VS 2 (TBI), it uses a different ECM and harness. It will be easier if you swap a harness from the same year and make vehicle, as it will plug right into the dash with no changes. For example, if you have an 89 TBI Camaro, you would want an 89 TPI Camaro harness. The Howell TBI is a fuel injection conversion kit based on a TBI system found on GM 4.3 liter V-6 engines. This kit is one of only two made for Jeeps that can be ordered California smog legal. The other kit is the Mopar MPI but it typically costs twice the amount.
This is a basic TBI harness for all engines using ECM 1227747 and 1228746 type ECM-many others can be used. Basic connections are standard but it is easy to customize one for your needs. One that jumps out at me, IC already mentioned it, is a short in the wiring harness that would cut out the PCM control of the injector and instead just open the injector fully all the time. You can check that with a multi-meter at the connector for the injector, the FSM should describe what you would see at each pin in the connector. This was an ECM in the C3 family (like a TBI ECM). This ECM was used only on 1985 models. It used a small box mounted right above the ECM called the Mass Air Burnoff Module. What had happened was I put a 3" body lift in and the wire harness going to the trans/transfer case drooped low and was rubbing on the front drive shaft.
